If I am not hungry, should I eat anyway?
Question:

If I am not hungry, should I eat anyway?
I have raised my calories this week and I should be eating right now as per a schedule, but I am not really hungry at all. Maybe hungry enough to eat something really small. Should I eat accordign to my schedule to get all my calories in for the day, or is the fat that I am not hungry supposed to mean that I need to not eat?
I lifted this evening then did cardio and then had my post workout meal, but now it is time to eat again and I don't think I could finish my scheduled meal.
Opinions?
Thanks
Todd

Answer:

Eat !
If your numbers you are trying to hit are right...then no doubt EAT.
The cleaner the better IMO

Todd there are days when i am not hungry at all...all day, which is not healthy.
so that in itself is not a good guage of whether u should eat or not.
if u have an eating schedule i would suggest sticking to it.
u could modify the intake, but ur schedule is there for a reason, don't overlook that part. ;)
and skipping a scheduled meal bc ur not hungry sometimes lead to "make-up" portions later on, which isn't good.
stick to ur guns.
:)

Answer:

Cool, I went ahead and ate (fish, sweet potato, brocolli and strawberries)... but I was wondering because in the past I have heard someone talking about the opposite if you are scheduling yourself low calories for the day and you are hungry between meals then you probably need a little more.
Thanks for the quick responses everyone!

Todd Good for you! It's not all that wise to get hungry, and when you eat, as it looks like you've found, you can eat more than you thought.

Answer:

I had trouble in the past getting all my calories, now after forcing myself for a while I think my metabolism has adjusted and I have no trouble. I think as with everything it is a matter of training of your body for your new lifestyle. Just make sure the proteins outway the carbs and fat, and as much as possible it is unprocessed food.

Answer:

Yup, got to eat.
I am constantly suprised by how MUCH I can eat and still loose 2 lbs/ week.
I force my self some days and others am fine.
After years off too little food (=/- 1000 cal/day) my body is finally getting used to eating again.

Answer:

Eat!
I would sugest eating, i have those times when i am not hungry and skip a meal only to be hungry later on in the day. It is better to keep on your eating schedule rather then be extremly hungry later on in the day. I some times may have an extra shake if i am not that hungry, but i utalize every meal to keep my intake up....
If posible try and eat at least 6 times a day,,,,,

Answer:

I wish I had the problem of not being hungry! :p
It's always good to eat enough to feed your body whether you're hungry or not :)

I've read this book "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" by Tom Venuto, the famous bodybuilder and author. The concept is to eat six (6) times a day, every three hours. Religiously. Each meal should not exceed total of 450-500 callories and the total daily intake should be between 2400 and 3000 callories for a male. This way you accelerate your body's metabolism, so it contributes to growth of the lean muscle tissue and burning of the body fat. I've followed this routine for a while, combined with resistance training (weight-lifting) and am very pleased with the results. It's not easy to do at all, due to the busy schedule, work, life, family, events, etc. But, it is very important to adhere to this strict technique in order to burn the body fat. Also, the percentage of protein/complex carbs/fat per meal must be meticulously measured to successfully burn the body fat. His book recommends the 40/30/30 ratio, plus/minus 5-10%, depending on the personal preferences/results and the stage of the maintenance (bulking/leaning).

I log everything and I plan my days in advance. I eat 6 - 8 times a day. I tend to shoot for a 40/40/20 ratio though. Maybe I should change up again.
