Wide grip chins maybe the answer for you. If you are already close to lifting bodyweight with lat pulldowns go to chins. You can get a Grizzly chin belt and hang added weight. Weight chins is a great compound exercise.
Anytime you can do an exercise that is an extended amount over bodyweight that is good progress.

Answer:

Isn't that what the pad is for, to put over your thighs to hold you down? I agree the wide grip pull ups are probably the way to go. You can always strap on some weight when you need to.

Answer:

I train at home, so don't have access to a chin up rack.
Just bought a treadmill as well, so my wife is going to be onto me getting another piece of equipment (only joking she is very supportive) and my home gym area is getting a bit full.
It sounds like chin ups may be the way to go, I'll have to look into equipment and see what's about.
Thanks for the replies.

I would imagine that unless you are using a weighted vest, or a safety belt or some way of holding yourself down, the answer is no. It is a pulley with weight on one side and weight on the other. The bigger one should win.
That's what Archimedes would say.... and he was smart!

Answer:

Lol, that's what I thought Detroit.
Thanks for the info on power tower, I expected they might be a fair bit more expensive than that. I will do some web surfing and visit my local sports store.

Thanks for the links Todd (repped), I like your chin up rack. It is very windy and very cold at the moment, winter is starting to wear very thin, bring on the sun.
Far, there isn't a pad to brace your thigh under on my equipment, but I know what you mean.

Answer:

Yeah but the lat machines I have used in gyms have a pad to brace your thighs under. I am hearing you on this. That's how I deal with it. Pads hold you down fine. You can do chin ups/pull ups too.
