I have broken my foot
Question:

I have broken my foot
I was taking a motorcycle trip for the past 2 weeks and on Thursday the bike fell on my foot and broke my ankle. It was quite an adventure as we were high in the mountains about 3 hours outside Denver. I was able to get my foot straightened around and on my motorcycle and get 30 miles to Canyon City. There I was able to get 911 to come and get me and take me to hospital.
I am back home now and will have the surgery to relocate the ankle on Tuesday. This is going to be a setback I am sure. This is the first time I have broken anything.
Any thoughts or well wishes will be appreciated. FWIW I managed to keep my diet very clean on this trip and even had my buddy eating clean. We went through Sturgis and the western side of the Rockies. It was a beautiful trip.
I have ridden my motorcycle for over 200,000 miles and when it gets back here I am selling it. I am taking this as a warning and will not be pressing my luck any more...at least with the bike!!! ( I told my wife in jest that I was going to get a horse!)

Answer:

The break really sucks but you look like you are in good shape so I bet you bounce back right away and you won't be the first guy I have seen in the gym on crutches. Go for it.

Answer:

I pretty much took that same trip back in 2000 only my start point was from Pennsylvania, and I waited 'till I got back to get busted up. Seriously, thats a bummer but there are many things you can work out with an ankle in a cast. Most all upper body movements can be done in a seated position, and you can work the legs with extensions and lying leg curls. Just have to forego the squats and deads.
Good luck to you.

X 2 , good luck, but think twice before you sell the bike!
keeponpumpin- ;) red

Answer:

Hope for your speedy recovery
Everyone has already said what needs to be heard.
Keep the bike man or you'll beat yourself up over it.

Answer:

( I told my wife in jest that I was going to get a horse!) I would think twice about selling your bike, I sold mine way back when and have never ridden again, other than a scooter. Wait till you have your horse stand on your foot..

Answer:

Selling my bike is about the other people in my life. It is not fair for me to commit them to a lifetime of service should I have a really disabling accident. How this differs from any other accident is that riding the bike has been for my pleasure alone and the odds are certainly greater than driving my car to the same places.
After 7 years alot of the glamour that I first felt on the bike is gone. I have other outdoor hobbies that I believe will keep me as interested and I love the gym~!
I am doing this out of love and the fact that I can't stand to be waited on!

Answer:

You are way to old to be riding a motorcycle anyway. Sold my 84 1/2 pre Evo belt drive Wideglide at age 52. (honestly, wish it was still there in the garage). I wish my broken heal, fibia and tibia last July was as glamorous as your break. I simply tripped at work. I'm 14 years your senior and it healed with lightning speed. I worked out best I could every day. Mega dosed on calcium, magnesium, zinc, vit C and MRD of D. Doc said all were part of my record heal time. (being half Snake also helped)
Drain the oil, remove the wheels and store the sucker for another day.

Great philosophy....exactly why I sold my GSXR1000 two months after I bought it.
Sorry to hear about the foot man....that sucks! Now I expect to see you back in the gym in a week with a wheelchair! :D

Answer:

We just got our bike in 2004...Before that I think we may have been too young. :)
Keep the bike!!! Store it for awhile, but keep it!!
(I hope you mend quickly, too!) Keep the bike!!!!

Answer:

I hope your foot gets healed up quickly!
Man, I feel what you are feeling right now. I had a FXR several years ago and I was taking the wife (divorced now - nothing to do with the bike though) for a ride and a car pulled out taking a left across and in front of us and we slid sideways trying to stop. At the last second she moved forward allowing us enough room to pass between her back bumper and a van that had stopped in the right lane for whatever reason, blocking our only escape. I sold the bike very quickly after that. We had our 1 year old son at my Dad's while we were riding and were terrified that we could have almost orphaned him in a matter of seconds due to no fault of our own!
I regret selling it. I recently got another bike and I haven't ridden it too much because I have been changing it up and I'm still concerned about something happening, but I love the fact that it is there in the garage. I took it out today for a quick trip and man it felt good to be on it again.
I'd think for a while about it before you let the bike go. But if you are strongly for selling, then go with it man. you have a lot better chance of not getting in a bike accident if you don't have a bike!
Here is the one I have now. (not trying to coax you into keeping yours or anything) :) It's a custom. Read that Mutt. Evo motor, Shovel 4 speed tranny, Kick Start Only, Frame from Mid-USA, 200 rear tire, 3" open primary. Fun times.

Answer:

Take care! Don't get too bummed out... focus on healing up and planning your diet & modified exercise program.
My mom broke her ankle riding a horse, horses can be dangerous too! Don't forget Christopher Reeves! He broke his neck. Madanna broke something recently too...
Living is a risk :-)

Answer:

You know how I appreciate all the input. I am going in for the surgery tomorrow. I will work on getting better before selling my Rocky Raccoon II. I am not eating much and am certain to lose some of my hard gained muscle. I have already made plans for the gym and I can work out pretty well except squats and deadlifts. Once I'm over the shock of surgery I will be right back at it. Until then my focus is on burning fat off...

Answer:

Good luck with the rehab. Keep lifting what you can.
